The Streak
College football’s greatest Division 1 winning streak lasted from the Sooners’ 7-7 tie with Pittsburgh on October 3, 1953, to their fabled 7-0 loss to Notre Dame on Nov. 16, 1957, the fiftieth anniversary date of Oklahoma statehood. During that time, the Sooners clobbered the 1953 AP national champion Maryland team in that year’s Orange Bowl, and went undefeated in 1954, 1955, 1956, and in 1957 until the Notre Dame game. OU also compiled two of the other greatest winning streaks, 31 games from 1948-1950 and 28 games from 1973-1975.
